From 17 to 23 May 2026, Thessaloniki hosted the Aristotle Innovation Forum, an international event bringing together academia, industry, policy and society under the theme “Aristotle Meets AI”. The Forum positioned the city as a hub of innovation for Southeastern Europe, and the SPECTRA network was among those represented.
For SPECTRA, the Forum provided a timely platform to highlight the growing role of artificial intelligence in environmental and food science. Discussions centred on how AI-driven approaches are transforming water quality monitoring, food safety assessment and the authentication and traceability of food products. Where traditional analytical workflows require significant time and specialist interpretation, machine learning and AI-assisted data analysis are enabling faster processing of complex datasets, improved predictive models and more efficient detection of emerging contaminants. The implications for environmental monitoring and public health protection are substantial.
SPECTRA’s participation reflected the project’s broader commitment to connecting cutting-edge analytical research with the digital tools and interdisciplinary collaborations needed to translate scientific findings into practical, scalable solutions. Events like the Aristotle Innovation Forum, which bring together researchers, technology developers, policymakers and citizens in a shared space for dialogue, are precisely the kind of environment where those connections are made.
